There are many exciting things to do in and around Playa Junquillal!

We have immense amounts of information about Costa Rica and would be more than happy to provide suggestions on how to ensure you have a wonderful stay. We highly recommend Frommer 's Costa Rica Travel Guide as an excellent resource on how, when and where to travel in Costa Rica. All of our own trips have been formed using this valuable resource, which can be purchased in most local book stores or online. We highly recommend anyone traveling to Costa Rica for the first time buy this book!

All of the travel and adventure suggestions that follow have been experienced personally by the owners of Casa de Mañana and are highly recommended. All of our guests will receive an informational booklet that provides driving instructions to reach each destination mentioned here.

There's SO much to do, or nothing to do. It's all up to you and how you want to spend your vacation!

Enjoy breathtaking sunset walks along Playa Junquillal, or jump right in and play in the waves. While you are there be sure to stop at the turtle nesting sanctuary to find out if any turtles are due to hatch during your stay. If your timing is right, you may be lucky enough to witness newly hatched turtles being released into the ocean from the protected hatching area on Playa Junquillal. Truly an amazing experience! Guided night-time Turtle Walks are also a unique experience as you observe turtles who have made their way out of the sea and up the beach to where they intend to lay their eggs, which is in the loose sand beyond the high tide mark. Be sure to look for (but please do not touch!) craters that were dug in the loose sand by egg laying turtles during the night.

A short walk to Playa Blanca (excellent snorkling right from shore!) will bring you to the Leatherback and Olive Ridley and Green Turtle feeding area where you can swim or snorkel with the protected species, or simply watch them from the beach as they rise in the surf. We spot them nearly every time we are there during the high tide. All you have to do is sit on the beach and scan the surf just before the waves break. You can identify the turtles by the size of their heads and bodies as they surface for a breath of air before diving back down for more food. Wait about 2 minutes and you will see the turtle raise again for another breath. Often times we see multiple turtles of different varieties feeding at the same time. Whale watching from the shore line is another amazing experience as they migrate past Playa Junquillal (seasonal). Too relaxed to go snorkeling? Take a walk down Playa Junquillal at low tide to see the many creatures hiding in the tide pools.

Playa Junquillal is also a popular surfing spot as are neighboring Playa Negra and Playa Avellanas, which are only a 15 minute drive from the house. There are several surfing schools in Playa Junquillal as well.

Join the community for sunset down at the beach and have a beer or cocktail at Adrianna's Bar. There are several exquisite restaurants (Italian, Swiss, German, American fare, Costa Rican fare and a pizzeria) and internet bars (with your own laptop) within walking distance from the house.

Shops, night life, fishing, scuba diving and adventure tours are all within a short drive. Consider chartering a boat for deep sea fishing, scuba diving or snorkling. Art, the owner of “Guanacaste Adventure Tours”, resides next door to Casa de Mañana, so you do not have to travel far to get all of the information you need for planning fun and exciting things to do! She is also available for pick-ups and drop-offs at Liberia International Airport.
